Clarity
I spent the end of 2025 and beginning of 2026 in Japan.
I likely have multiple years worth of quality photos to share at my website.
With this in mind, I’m planning to share at least one photo from my trip each month. This could be the only one, as will be the case for January, or it may be in addition to photos I take throughout the rest of the year.
A big draw for me in deciding to visit Nippon (or Nihon if you prefer) was to get a clear view of Mount Fuji with my own eyes.
There was no guarantee I would.
The summit is frequently shrouded in cloud, with the full mountain being visible on average around 80 days a year.
Meaning I basically had a one in four chance to see Fuji-san on any given day.
To my incredible good fortune, I had clear weather during my trip and saw the whole volcano on 5 different days.
To be sure, this includes train rides from Tokyo to Osaka, from Kyoto to Mishima, and then from Mishima back to Kyoto.
But there’s also some overlap between my journeys and my time in Fujiyoshida, so that the mountain proudly sat beneath clear skies on each of the three days I was nearby.
I captured a variety of scenes, both on my phone and on my dedicated camera system. I had quite different intentions for these compositions.
For this first image, I have purposefully stripped the scene of the town nestled below the mountain.
I invite you to contemplate the unadorned mountain straddling the landscape. May it offer you some clarity, in whatever form that takes shape.
